Every Muse pattern is designed by one of our two designers - Kat or Johanna.
Kat is a lover of vintage styles, especially the details that you find on garments from the 1930's and 1940's. She designs sewing patterns that incorporate modern cuts with vintage details and interesting seam lines. Her favourite fabrics to work with are cotton and wool, especially cotton lawns and merino knits.
Kat has been sewing for 3/4 of her life, starting with making clothes for her Barbie dolls. Her love of sewing led her to study pattern drafting at the Otago Polytechnic, run her own clothing label for a few years, and has now led her to designing sewing patterns for the home sewing market.
Johanna designs thoughtful yet functional pieces for the modern wardrobe. She has an affinity for a classic, tailored aesthetic that leans towards the sweet and feminine. Slow fashion and sustainable thinking have become core values for Johanna. High quality natural fibres of all types are her favourite to work with.
After years of sewing as a creative hobby, her passion for design, sewing, and patternmaking, led her to complete a BDes Hons in Fashion. Her aim with Muse patterns is to empower people with an appreciation for garment-making and the ability to express their own creative style.
