Featuring a fun sleeve and a breezy fit, Mānuka is an easy-to-wear top and dress. Designed for lightweight woven fabrics, Mānuka has a loose fit that skims over the hips, and doesn’t require any closures, so no zip woes!
Mānuka combines a dropped shoulder with a classic fitted armscye at the base, for a tailored take on a relaxed shoulder. Choose from a flutter sleeve that is flared and fancy, or opt for the longer sleeve which falls just past elbow length, and has a less full silhouette. The flutter sleeve's high-low hem emphasises the graceful folds around the arm, while the longer sleeve is level at the hem.
Mānuka comes in three lengths. Opt for a classic top which sits at a flattering point just above the hip, giving you the option to tuck, or wear loose. For a fun breezy look, choose the cropped length which goes great with a high-waisted skirt or fitted pants. Finally, the dress version sits above the knee for a classic look with either tights or bare legs!
The classic scoop neckline features an optional keyhole and button detailing at the centre back. Included as options for the dress are a narrow tie belt and belt loops, as well as in-seam pockets. The pattern features detailed illustrated instructions so you can get the perfect finish on your neckline and other tricky areas.
Options for both B-cup and D-cup bodices are included. The D-cup bodice features a bust dart. No dart is needed for smaller cup sizes.
Make Mānuka in a lightweight silk-cotton blend or a soft chambray for a cool summer dress, or try it in a heavier silk crêpe or wool to add some glam to your winter repertoire!
Mānuka has been designed by Johanna Morris, exclusively for Muse Patterns.
As with all Muse patterns, the full profit (less all those bank fees) from the first week of sales (until 30 July 2018) of the Mānuka pattern will be donated to charity. This time, we'll be donating to Kids Can - a great charity that helps children living in financial hardship.
Mānuka is a PDF pattern with both print-at-home and print-at-copyshop options, delivered straight away to your inbox on purchase. (Please note that the pattern file is a .zip format and will need to be opened on a laptop or desktop. Smartphones and tablets are unable to open .zip files.)
Mānuka is in Muse sizing 28 - 48, which correspond to high bust sizes 28" - 48". Both B-cup and D-cup options are included (B-cup options have a full bust 2" wider than the high bust. D-cup options have a full bust 4" wider than the high bust).
Mānuka works best with lightweight woven fabrics with drape such as crêpe, silk/cotton blends, chambray, lightweight linen, chiffon, crêpe de chine, and rayon. Lightweight draping fabrics such as these are ideal to create the flutter in the sleeves and are particularly great for the tie-belt option, to create those soft folds at the waist.
For a more dramatic look, choose fabrics with more body to bring out the volume of the sleeves and flared silhouette.
Fabric requirements are based on size 48. Extra fabric may be required to match patterns or stripes. Smaller sizes may be able to be cut out of less fabric, however the amount below is the most you will need for the given variation in a fabric with no print direction.
There are a few variations for the Mānuka pattern. To keep things simple, the dress versions fabric requirements have been calculated including the optional pieces for the tie belt, pockets, and sleeve hem facing.
For the variation with the button and loop neckline fastening, you will need one 1cm / 3/8" diameter button.
Chelsea is wearing the cropped top variation and the dress variation in a size 32 B-cup. Both feature the flutter sleeve and keyhole detail at the back neckline. The white top is made in a cotton/silk blend. The blue dress is in a polyester crêpe.
Nicola is wearing a size 42 D-cup. The green dress with flutter sleeves is made in a lightweight woven polyester. The blue top with longer sleeves is in a cotton chambray. We've paired the dress with the Sophie cardi in a mustard yellow merino wool.
